Just what I needed
The book is small but mighty. A great book to read, reread, and take with you. I plan to buy more for friends and family.

Hello Happiness!
This is a wonderful book full of the author's personal insights and his proven strategy for living a happy life. I have given this book to many of my friends and family and recommend it whole heartedly.

Yes,you can choose to be happy.
Many years ago I first read this delightful book and I was amazed at how by simply following Bear's Option dialogue process life could be better.
I have given this book as a gift many times and it is one of those books that I unhesitatingly recommend. My friend, life coach Radha Singh who has had the good fortune to meet Barry Neil Kauffman and to do Option courses says that my giving her this book to read transformed her life.
The simple direct style and the easy prose style of a master story teller makes this a fun book to read.
Do not be deceived. If you follow the priciples set out in this book you will indeed live a happy life.

Get Clark Smart : The Ultimate Guide for the Savvy Consumer

No Brainer
A friend tipped me off to Clark's radio show which I listen to over the net since I live in a small town in California. I was a bit skeptical, but once I began listening I couldn't stop. The best thing about Clark Howard is his realistic view on money and purchasing. He understands "deals", but more importantly he understands "value". We all know those people who will do anything to find deals regardless of value. I'm buying two copies of this book, one for myself and one for the friend who told me about Clark Howard. I recommend you buy it, you'll feel better about every dollar you spend, and even better about every dollar you save.

I wish I had read this book when I was 22
... I could have saved myself a lot of money in the past 10 years. I highly recommend this book as a gift to those young men and women in your life who are just starting out, newlyweds, new parents--anyone who could use a quick course in savvy consumer education. I enjoy Clark's radio show, and his easy, friendly style translates very well into print. Clark, this was worth every penny!

It Will Pay For Itself
Get Clark Smart is a great consumer reference book that will pay for itself in a short time by helping you make wise purchase decisions. Before signing any contracts or buying any major items you should check with Clark Howard, and his book makes that easy to do. This book would also make a great gift for newlyweds, children, or practically anyone.

Mayberry Memories: The Andy Griffith Show Photo Album

Authors: Ken Beck and Jim Clark

"Mayberry Memories" A Treasure Of Precious Memories
The new "Mayberry Memories" is truly a treasure of memories, photo's, personal stories and thoughts from actors and production alike. As a true Andy Griffith Show fan, it has taken me hours to sift through this treasure chest and the wonderful precious memories it has brought back to me.

The book is well organized, is so comprehensive that I can't think of things being left out and is a true tribute to Andy Griffith, the cast of the show and the people behind the scenes.

It is truly a jewel in the "The Andy Griffith Show" treasure chest and is a wonderful way to celebrate the show's 40th Anniversary.

Well done Mr. Beck and Mr. Clark!

Mayberry Memories
An excellent book and well put together. You will find amazing photographs of all the characters in the cast...and then some. One of the most interesting photos, in this book, is one of an ariel view of the Mayberry Town near Culver City, California. An actual town within a town.

I have read other books and also found them interesting with regard to the Andy Griffith show, but it was great to see all the pictures and read the personal comments of the stars and the people behind the scenes.

I believe that anyone , like myself, who really loved the show will enjoy this a great deal. Well done. This was one of my all time favorites shows and this book shows a lot of the people who made it such a great series.

Best Griffith Show Book Ever!
Since publication of my "Andy Griffith Show Scrapbook" in 1993 I have regrettably been away from the world of Mayberry working on many other books in the ensuing years. However, Jim Clark and Ken Beck's "Mayberry Memories" made me recall just why this show is the epitome of classic American comedy. It is superb in every respect, and filled with dozens of rare photos that will impress even the most hard-core Griffith collector. Clark and Beck are uniquely suited for this project, having spent so many years documenting the Griffith show phenomenon through other books, fan clubs, and events. They've outdone themselves with this definitive tribute to one of the truly great shows. There's only one word for it...."Big!" (Or as Mr. Fife would say, "Aw, big ain't the word for it....it's REALLY big!")

Long Knife
Published in Paperback by Ballantine Books (July, 1994)
Author: James Alexander Thom
Average review score:

Superb
I read this book years ago, but the story of George Rogers Clark has stayed with me. Thom is one of those rare authors that can paint pictures with his masterful weaving of words. A fictional presentation of a real-life hero, a man who accomplished amazing things and lived and outstanding life - and he is one that has long been overshadowed in the history books to a degree by his younger brother's feats (William Clark, famed adventurer of the Lewis & Clark team).

Thom has done a superb job of showcasing George Rogers Clark in this book. It's an outstanding read and could well set the reader on an adventure for more historical fiction from this fine author. Be sure to check out 'From Sea to Shining Sea' as well.

long knife
this story shows how the efforts of "george rogers clark" contributed to the growth of this country. we are used to hearing about the exploits of the revolutionary war but not often do we get a chance to know what was going on in the northwest territory. this is one of the best books i have ever read that covers how important a part was played by what was happening there. i recommend this book as an excellent read and most informative.

Not a quick read, but well worth it.
This is the second book I've read by James Alexander Thom. I love the way this author writes. Like the first book that I ready, Follow The River, this book pulled me in and I couldn't wait to get back to reading it to see what happened next. Thom does a superb job in his research. I read the book over the Christmas holiday when I was travelling. After the holidays I happened to catch a History Channel presentation on George Rogers Clark. To my surprise, Thom was included among the experts that they interviewed. I would recommend that anyone who likes to read about history and have it brought to life in the story read this book. I can't wait to read another book by Thom.

Marilyn Monroe: Cover to Cover
Published in Paperback by Krause Publications (July, 1999)
Author: Clark Kidder
Average review score:

Reading Cover to Cover
I've just finished to read Cover to cover by Clark Kidder. I think It's a very good book, interesting and rich of photos. I could find some Marilyn covers I had never saw, from all part of word. Interesting also the writing of the autor. My favourite cover is on page 108, the first at the left. I also like very much the cover on page 130, maybe because It's from an Italian magazine.

An excellent book of Marilyn Monroe cover appearances.
I have been a fan of Marilyn Monroe since 1953/1954 when my Mother took me to see "How To Marry A Millionaire" at Radio City Music Hall (thanks, Mom). But I became an avid collector in the summer of 1959 when Marilyn blasted me away as Sugar in "Some Like It Hot". From that time I have been on a quest to acquire everything about her. I have amassed a formidable collection of magazine articles and whenever possible complete magazines featuring Marilyn on the cover. It had always been a goal of mine to have some kind of checklist of every magazine cover she appeared on and it wasn't until 1994 that Clark Kidder came to the rescue to provide the possibility of such a checklist.

His book "Marilyn Monroe Uncovers" by Quon Editions out of Canada (ISBN 0-9695539-7-8) packed 160 pages with hundreds of photos of magazine covers. This book was like bread to a starving man. It was by no means the complete record of Marilyn Monroe magazine covers but it did provide the avid collector with the means to identify a great many that might be missing from his/her collection. This book satisfied. But now, five years later, Mr. Kidder has outdone his first effort. With the release by Krause Publications of "Cover To Cover" we have a great deal more to thank Clark Kidder for. He has put together a 159 page book to rival his first book. While there are several covers that are repeated again in this book, there are a great many

others that appear for the first time making this a Volume 2 of a 2 volume reference set.

The advantage of "Cover To Cover" over "Marilyn Monroe Uncovers" is that it presents the evolution of the girl Norma Jean posing early in her modeling career through the glamorous Marilyn Monroe modeling phase into the Marilyn Monroe screen goddess phase and ending with the sad and troubled Marilyn in her last days. A time line of the most fabulous face ever to grace the camera. The chronological presentation guides the casual reader through the stages of Marilyn's life and career. And for the hard-core collector, Mr. Kidder has provided pricing ranges for complete magazines with each cover portrayed. His prices come from his personal knowledge in acquiring the magazines that are featured in his books. I have seen his ads running in collector publications seeking any magazine with Marilyn Monroe on the cover.

Comparing the two books one finds several differences in styles. "Marilyn Monroe Uncovers" provided the prices in the 3 page - 2 column index at the back of the book. It also covered more of the American movie magazines with a sprinkling of foreign publications. The book was oversize with dimensions of 9" by 12". "Cover To Cover" provides the prices along with the cover and the index has been reduced to a single 4 column page. There are many more foreign publications even from the beginning of the book, which measures 8 1/4" by 10 3/4".

Remarkably, both books show a strikingly limited display of Life, LOOK, Time and Newsweek covers although she had appeared on these publications many times. Corresponding with the author, I discovered that the Time/Life giant wanted substantial fees for permission to reprint their covers.

Clark Kidder's breathtaking projects prove that the loving devotion to a superstar can result in an admirable tribute to her. These are books he has every right to feel proud of. Whether he attempts to continue his quest to complete the record or not, he has provided us all with a glorious set of one-of-a-kind books.

A beautiful book that chronicles Marilyn's life.
Features 160 pages with 200 large (some full page), sharp full color magazine covers from all over the world. Includes numerous quotes and anecdotes accompanying the pictures. Estimated values are shown. All of this is in chronological order. The volume is completely indexed. A history of the legend and a timeline of her life from 1926 to 1962 is provided. This volume is a collectible in its own right. If you collect Marilyn Monroe memorabilia, this 5 star rated book is essential.

The Quiet American: Text and Criticism (Viking Critical Library)
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (January, 1996)
Authors: Graham Greene and John Clark Pratt
Average review score:

Indispensible, complete treatment of Greene's Indochina
The Viking Critical Library's version of Graham Greene's "The Quiet American" is an indispensible text for full appreciation of Greene's perceptions of Indochina, France's war there, and America's budding involvement. The editor, John C. Pratt carefully selects criticism of Greene's TQA that creates a complete and rich discourse on Greene's life and writings that serves as a backdrop to his novel. Added to that backdrop are histories, such as Frank Futrell's thirteen-page explanation of how the United States became involved in Vietnam, and official documents from the State Department, to interviews with former South Vietnamese generals and Ho Chi Minh.

TQA itself a wonderful book that,to an American, probes at our treasured notion high-minded idealism and our "can-do" spirit that has served us well at times and not so well at others. Greene's symbolism is telling and insightful, given that it was published well before the United States' full-blown involvement in that region of the world. While Greene relates many things that he experienced or felt in Indochina as a journalist, the book is not solely a "war novel". TQA, like many of Greene's books, takes the readers on the author's journey of personal morality and matters religious.

An intriguing piece
(This review refers to the Viking Critical Library edition, edited by John Clark Pratt)

Graham Greene's novel of Pyle, the "quiet American", employed by a barely-disguised fronting organisation of the CIA, narrated by Fowler, a British journalist who comes across by turns as weary and worldly, is immensely interesting. In it, Greene offers up perhaps his most incisive and insightful political commentary, treating the danger of allowing people guided solely by ideology and schools of academic thought to be responsible for intelligence fieldwork. Pyle, a graduate of Harvard, goes into Indochina, believing intensely in the necessity of enabling a "third column", General The's men, and employing them as an American proxy force.

Whether or not Pyle himself sees the implicit incompatibility of this abstract idea and reality is never quite clear: certainly Pyle plays witness to the destruction that his attempts to mobilise a third column bring about. He is not subject, though, to the gross revulsion at the wanton destruction of life that Fowler is. Equally certainly, Pyle's political views cost him his life: open to question, still, is whether or not Pyle himself was ever conscious of his fallacies, or if he remains blinded throughout. Rather than being a novel of a man's moral revelations, or telling of his relationship with the Divine, "The Quiet American" is far more a parable.

Greene's structure, his combined simplicity and complexity, and the thematic relevance of this novel, render it a deserving read. Additionally, the chronologies and commentaries upon foreign involvement in Indochina/Vietnam are both valuable and blessedly concise, and the collected reviews and critcal commentaries upon the novel serve as valuable tool for understanding.

Amazing Novel, Great Compilation
In what is really the grandfather to all noir, foreign intrigue novels, Graham Greene produces not only one of the greatest novels of the 20th century, but also provides a scathing look at American and French policy in Vietnam. It is strange to read The Quiet American now, so long after the disastrous wars that killed millions of people and tore American apart. I would call it an almost tragic read, for in the pages of this provocative novel, Greene provides the roadmap for future disasters. The story is so scathing, so insightful, that one cannot help but to be forever affected. Greene?s tale is made even more effective in this wonderful volume, which provides the reader with numerous criticisms, defenses, and background documents.

Greene?s main character in the epic tale is Fowler, an amazingly interesting and complex British journalist covering the endless civil war in French Indochina. Fowler is one of the most engrossing literary characters I have ever read, as he is both worldly and horribly cynical. As if his own inner politics and views were not enough, his personal life also provides intriguing details. His wife back home in England is distant, foreign to him. In the meantime, Fowler has fallen in love with Phuong, a young Vietnamese woman. He finally feels some degree of happiness, of stability, even as the world rages on around him. The inquisitive Fowler is our eyes and ears as we watch a decrepit and corrupt colonialist system fight a hopeless war against ruthless insurgents. All the intricacies of French life in Indochina are described in picturesque detail, giving the book a beautiful travel book element to it.

The wartime peace Fowler has found is shattered with the arrival of Pyle, an American consulate official. Pyle is young, Ivy League, and idealistic to a dangerous degree. He is way over his head, as he knows little of the country or of its politics. The ?Quiet American?, as he is known, is a timid young man looking for the ?third way?, a way out of the civil war between communism and colonialism. Although known for his good heart and his boyish enthusiasm, Pyle hides a much darker side, revealed in a shocking way later on in the book. He strikes up a kind of friendship with Fowler, and, to Fowler?s dismay, falls in love Phuong. The book progresses, weaving the amazing story lines of war and love together in an unbelievably interesting book. The message Pyle gives us is a haunting reminder of American innocence about to be eaten alive in the confusing and shadowy jungles of Southeast Asia. The conclusion is just stunning, and it really stays with you.

Not only does this version include the wonderful novel, it also contains other samples of Greene?s writing concerning Indochina. The editor, Mr. Pratt, did a really marvelous job compiling a lot of disparate documents into a really effective overview of the war and the story itself. This edition should be the first and last volume any Greene fans need, as it amazingly thorough and respectful of Greene?s brilliant work.

The Face of Our Past: Images of Black Women from Colonial America to the Present
Published in Hardcover by Indiana University Press (15 June, 2000)
Authors: Kathleen Thompson, Hilary Mac Austin, Darlene Clark Hine, and Hilary Austin
Average review score:

A Magnificent Contribution
THE FACE OF OUR PAST is a magnificent contribution to the history of black women in America. The photographic images go back three hundred years, across a vast spectrum of life experience, to create a rich and vivid tapestry. Thank you, Kathleen Thompson, Hilary Mac Austin, and Darlene Clark Hine for this beautiful book!

A pictorial source of determination for every woman
This book belongs in the library of every woman who desires to make an everlasting positive impact in her life, the lives of her family and community . The photos and stories captivated my friends and I, and empowered us with the knowledge that others had already travelled down roads of, similiar and worst, challenges and had come up with surprising strength, individuality and success. Thompson and Mac Austin in this book have given vast recognition to the lives of african-descended females.Their's are stories of mere strangers who existed decades upon decades ago and who are now encouraging on a new generation of 21st century women, a callaloo(mixture) of women from every branch of ethniticity , social-structure and religion. There are so many magnificent photos in this book that every reader can identify herself as at least one of these women.Their eyes and smiles, their clothing and expressions all tell a single story of a determination to create and enjoy a better life, whether on an individual or bigger scale. The spirit of this book motives us in the power that we can persevere and succeed because we are ancestorally, protector, provider, sustainer woman.I am an editor and wife and found this book a true asset in my personal and professional life. You are welcome to email me for a free copy of my minizine. I would also recommend books by Clarissa Pinkola Estes and Iyana Vanzant if you are looking to enrich your life's journey. These writers are not as "photogenic" as THE FACE OF OUR PAST.

The Face of Our Past
This book is absolutley amazing. Some may be shocked to find that it was written by two white women. I am not African American and I do not feel that this book is exclusively for African American women, it is for all races. This book shows the struggle of women and all women can learn from this book. It is a wonderful work of art for all women in every country.

The Memory Workbook: Breakthrough Techniques to Exercise Your Brain and Improve Your Memory

Memory Plus
This book is a great self help tool not only in the area of memory - but in using the power of positive thinking.

Right from the start the exercises give you power to enhance your memory by teaching techniques to pay attention, to associate and to accept your own abilities.

For anyone who has a tendancy to forget, you can learn your strengths, boost your weaknesses and even smile at them. If you fear Aging, Alzheimers, Dimentia or Senility - there is an explanation that is understandable. Medication, Depression and other factors that can alter one's memory are also described.

I would recommend this book to anyone who suffers from or knows someone else who has concerns regarding his or her memory.

Memory Workbook
I'm writing this review because I really liked a lot of aspects of the book. I recommended it to my friends, so I figured I'll recommend it to internet users as well. I've read some other books on memory improvement, but I think this book was more engaging. It includes most of the principles found in the other memory books I've read, but this book seemed to make it more cohesive. I think the other aspect I enjoyed was the emphasis on personal attitudes. It honestly left me with a new perspective on growing old. Also I felt the book spoke well to some of the sometimes-negative feelings I've had about growing old (to be honest I was surprised by just how many negative perceptions I had that this book revealed to me - and corrected, so to speak). Actually, the more I think about it, the more I can say I really liked the book and do highly recommend it. Enjoy

excellent book
The Memory Workbook is a must for anyone over the age of 40. It explains in a way that anyone can understand how memory works and what to expect as you age. It helped me to feel better about myself and my memory and helped me to realize that occasional forgetfulness is ok. It also help me to realize that a particular medication that I was on was actually affecting my memory. So I conslulted my doctor and my memory has greatly improved. I really recommend this book!
